My articles in this year’s IAIDQ newsletter have focused on the politics of data quality management.  I’ve examined the organizational politics of data, the fact that increasingly political discussions about data quality are a major sign of progress, and the relationships between IT and “the business.” 

Last quarter, I promised to focus this year’s final column on the motivations of individuals.  Ultimately, quality is all about people, so an understanding of what motivates people to “sign up” for quality programs is essential.  In any organization, the leaders—the first one or two people to sign up are especially important.
