July 2009: IDQ Newsletter Vol 5 Issue 3
Dear fellow members:
This quarter’s issue of the IAIDQ Newsletter is one of our longest and meatiest issues yet, with articles from these IDQ thought leaders:
- Dr. Matthew West gives us an update on ISO 8000 - the Emerging Standard for Data Quality. The standard focuses primarily on the quality of master data used to integrate the supply chain. Dr. West also describes an approach he hopes will be included within the ISO 8000 family of standards.
- Maureen Clarry gives us the first step to overcoming organizational barriers by highlighting patterns of organizational dysfunction in her article entitled Power, Politics, and Partnership in Information Quality Initiatives.
- Steve Sarsfield stresses the importance of presenting information quality metrics in terms that are meaningful to executives and stakeholders in his article, Doctoring Up Your Data with Business Metrics.
- Daragh O Brien starts his series on KPIs for Information Quality in this issue by helping us determine what actually needs to be measured.
- Michael Scofield begins a two-part series entitled Quality of Derived Data, and highlights the factors that affect the quality of the aggregates and derivations that we encounter every day.
- In Caution – Relationship Work Ahead, Michael P. Meier delves into the rich and complex world of data relationships, and explains why any data quality approach that ignores the subtleties of relationships will fail.
In our Association News section:
- Two of our charter members have recently launched new professional service firms that offer information and data quality consulting. Find out who they are in our News from Members.
- IAIDQ Sponsorship Opportunities are available. Inquire now!
- The IAIDQ reiterates its Call for Volunteers. Stand up and be counted!
- And as always, our Call for Contributions appears on our last page.
I look forward to hearing from you.
